Zwartewaterland hands over corona leader after weeks, explosion of infections in the Veluwe
Check your municipalityThe number of new positive corona cases in the east of the Netherlands has increased significantly in the past 24 hours. 701 infections were registered in the safety regions Flevoland, IJsselland and North and East Gelderland. That is 75 more than Friday.
Of those three safety regions, North and East Gelderland stood out in particular. There, 384 new cases were reported, 16 more than yesterday. This is the highest number since January 9 and can also be seen on the corona map. Almost one third (5 out of 17) of the Gelderland municipalities in the Stentor region is colored dark red, the highest signal value of the RIVM.
IJsselland was the largest climber. On Friday, the region appeared after a huge peak to have arrived at calmer waters, but 225 people (82 more than the day before) tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours. In Flevoland, the number of new cases actually decreased in the past 24 hours. 92 corona cases were reported there, 23 fewer than yesterday. Our apologies
Zwartewaterland is now no longer the ‘corona frontrunner’ in the eastern Netherlands. Today that is the Gelderland municipality of Voorst. Converted there were 77.4 positive tests per 100,000 inhabitants reported. Voorst is one of a total of seven municipalities in the east of the Netherlands that has the dark red color on the corona map. Yesterday there were three more.
Nationally, the RIVM has registered 7,668 new corona cases. That is the highest number in a day since January 8 and there are 280 more than Friday. The number of deaths rose by 18 last 24 hours. The total number of confirmed corona cases on Sunday or Monday is expected to exceed 1.2 million.
Rise in hospitals
The number of corona patients in hospitals has also increased further. Currently, 2,047 corona patients are being treated in hospitals, reports the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS). The day before, there were 2041. The number of patients in intensive care increased by 23 to 602.
