Wijnaldum and PSG simply pass Strasbourg thanks to arbitration starring Mbappé

An apparently simple victory for Georginio Wijnaldum with Paris Saint-Germain on Strasbourg. Mauricio Pochettino’s team did need help from the arbitration: 4-2.

Before the game started, the newly recruited stars of this transfer summer were presented in front of the full stadium. There they stood: Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Achraf Hakimi on the podium, waving to the people in the Parc des Princes.

Two of them appeared at the start against Strasbourg: Wijnaldum and Hakimi. Sergio Ramos is still injured, Donnarumma and Messi will soon be in action for the star ensemble. Angel Di Maria was not there yet and neither was Neymar. Of the best attacking trio in the history of French football, only Mbappé, who was whistled before the game by his own fans because they blame him for not wanting to extend the expiring contract, was inside the lines.

Even without all those missing stars, but with Georginio Wijnaldum in the base, PSG immediately took the initiative. Mauro Icardi gave the home team the lead in the third minute. There was an air of offside around him, but the referee and VAR didn’t smell it. So the goal counted: 1-0. PSG then waltzed two more times over the tame Strasbourg within half an hour after a hit by Kylian Mbappé, who was the declarant in Julian Draxler’s 3-0.

The Parisians had few problems with the opponent until the second half started. Suddenly Strasbourg was fighting for every meter and increasing the pressure. PSG thought they already had the victory and became lax. Kevin Gameiro (ex-PSG) first took advantage of this and then Ludovic Ajorque. Both outwitted Keylor Navas with a header, of which Ajorque’s was a jewel. The striker headed hard on the edge of the sixteen-meter area. After the 3-2 the tension was completely back.

Red Strasbourg

But Strasbourg was unable to push through, and certainly not after the red card for Aleksander Djiku, twice yellow within two minutes, the second print of which was a slight push in the back of Icardi. A few minutes before the end, Pablo Sarabia finally decided the game by tapping Mbappé’s cross into the back line after an acceleration: 4-2. For example, PSG booked the second victory of the season and now we have to wait for all those other stars to be back in the team.
