That club now suits me better than PSV,” the 21-year-old midfielder told the ED after her last game, dressed in the cup champion’s bathrobe.

Van Dooren had two good seasons in Eindhoven and a lot was expected of her. In the past year, however, partly due to a change in playing style, she could no longer count on a basic place. She needs a different stimulus and therefore moves to the east of the country. ,,It’s not near the door, so I’m going to live there. I’m really looking forward to it,” says the football player who started at RKVVO at the age of 5. ,,From the conversations I had at Twente, there was a lot of confidence. They understand very well how I am as a player and how I would then fit into the rest of the team. Twente has a team that always wants to play football and I want that too. We share that vision.”
Robert de Pauw will be the head coach of FC Twente next season. The Brabantse Caitlin Dijkstra, with whom she previously played in the training team of CTO Eindhoven, comes over from Ajax. Captain Renate Jansen and Kika van Es, among others, extended their contracts. Van Dooren: ,,When I look at the selection, there is simply a very good team.”
Step to Orange and abroad
Van Dooren hopes to be able to make the step to Orange via FC Twente. ,,I first want to show myself at full capacity in the Netherlands for another two years. But I also hope that this is an intermediate step towards a foreign country, I certainly have that ambition.”
She ended her period at PSV last weekend with a win in the cup final. ,,We were able to put the right energy on the mat and I’m glad we finished it’, says Van Dooren, who was only brought in by Rick de Rooij in the extra time. A week earlier, the Veldhovense scored the winning goal against Twente as a substitute in the Philips Stadium. ,,It is very nice that I can end my period at PSV in this way. Looking back, I have grown enormously as a football player and as a person at PSV. I will take that with me.”
Leuchter is seduced by Ajax
In addition to Kayleigh van Dooren, another talent from the south is leaving with Romée Leuchter. Leuchter got overtrained in her first year at PSV. Once recovered, she experienced her breakthrough this season at PSV, which wanted to continue with the 20-year-old wing attacker. Leuchter, base player under Rick de Rooij, was tempted by an offer from Amsterdam and signed with Ajax until mid-2024. ,,The playing style of Ajax attracts me. I think it suits me well too. I’m really looking forward to playing football at Ajax and winning a lot of prizes,” said Leuchter.
Simon couldn’t live up to expectations
PSV will not continue with attacker either Kyah Simon. The 29-year-old Australian was unable to live up to the high expectations due to injuries. She scored three official goals for PSV. It is not yet known where Simon will continue her career. She is now focusing on the Tokyo Olympics and wants to shine again in two years’ time at the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
