Unions call on agents not to work during controversial 538 party Breda

The police unions are calling on colleagues to stop working if they are deployed around the 538 Orange Day test event at the Chasséveld in the center of Breda. “No collective labor agreement, no vaccination, unclear policy and impending public order problems do not give any other choice”, a spokesman for the ACP union said on Twitter.

Radio 538 wants to hold a big Orange party in Breda on April 24, as part of the Fieldlab experiments. Ten thousand people come to the party.

But a storm of criticism has erupted in recent days. Catering entrepreneurs are angry that they have not been allowed to receive guests for months, while eating and drinking will take place at the Orange Party.

Doctors and healthcare staff of the Amphia Hospital in Breda have started a petition against the Oranjefeest. They call the event a slap in the face of healthcare, which has been working overtime for more than a year due to the corona crisis. The petition was signed more than 350,000 times within two days.

Amphia Hospital can no longer perform normal operations

The health care workers speak of an “ill-considered pseudo-experiment. Celebrating a party with ten thousand people 400 meters from a hospital overloaded by COVID is a blow to patients and caregivers.”

Due to the corona pandemic, the hospital has reduced its operating capacity by at least half and the operating rooms are only available for acute and urgent care. Doctors assess daily whether an operation is really necessary or can be postponed. An Amphia spokesperson said earlier that he was concerned about the party, because the use of drugs or alcohol could lead to acute medical situations.

OMT also has serious doubts about Oranjefeestje

The Outbreak Management Team (OMT) also expressed concerns about the Orange Party earlier this week. OMT member and epidemiologist Jan Kluytmans is concerned about the possible infections caused by the large number of visitors.

“I think ten thousand people is a very big step. Testing will give you a lot of positives, but not all of them, there will be dozens of people who are contagious,” said Kluytmans. BNR. “I’m concerned about that anyway. From the control perspective, I think that’s risky.”

Despite all the criticism on the 538 Orange Day, the cabinet says it wants to continue with the Fieldlab events. The city council of Breda will talk on Monday evening about the controversial party of Radio 538.538 has confidence in the outcome and started building the stage on Monday.
