The new iMac comes in seven colors

The new iMac has a flat, sleek appearance and is 11.5 millimeters thick. The computer has a 24 inch screen with a 4.5K resolution. The iMac has slimmed down by 50 percent, Apple says. There is now a white instead of a black border around the screen. The iMac is also available in different colors, just like the original from 1998. The new iMac is available in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver.

The computer runs on the M1 chip that Apple already introduced in the last year MacBook Air and MacBook Pro stopped. For the past fifteen years, Apple has supplied its computers with a chip from Intel, while iPhones and iPads have a chip after Apple design. The Mac is now also switching to these Apple chips.

The iMac with M1 chip offers up to 85 percent better CPU performance than its predecessors, and up to twice the graphics performance in apps like Photoshop. The iMac contains six front speakers Dolby Atmos sound, the webcam now has 1080p resolution and the microphones focus on the user’s voice, according to Apple.

Keyboard with finger scanner

The iMac comes with an updated Magic Keyboard. This time there is a choice of three variants, all three available in the seven colors of the new iMac. The new keyboard has a dedicated emoji key and a close button to lock the iMac with one key.

For an additional cost, there is also a variant in which the close button contains a TouchID finger scanner – for the first time that Apple provides a wireless keyboard with that key. There is also a wider version of that keyboard, with a numeric part. The Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad are also now available in the seven new iMac colors.

From 1,449 euros

The iMac has up to four Thunderbolt ports. The ethernet connection has been moved to the adapter that hangs halfway down the power cord. An SD card reader is no longer in the iMac.

The new iMac is available from 1,449 euros for a version with 7-core GPU, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space, in the colors green, pink, blue and silver. A version with 8-core GPU, 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space is available from 1699 euros in all seven new colors. The iMac can be ordered from April 30 and will be delivered in the second half of May.
