Swiss vote against online login system with digital identity

Indeed, you can also enter such things without making them mandatory.

In this way you give digital literates the opportunity to work in their old, trusted way, but the younger generation, who are less represented in percentage terms, can work digitally.

edit: quite a few reactions

@Bas_B Here in Belgium we have itsme. “itsmeĀ® is an initiative of Belgian Mobile ID, a consortium of four major Belgian banks (Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, ING, KBC) and Belgian network operators (Orange, Proximus, Telenet). Together they want to make it easy for people to keep themselves safe and secure. quickly identifiable in a world that is becoming increasingly digital. ”

Those are indeed private for-profit companies, but the way it works is that after the initial setup, I can log into a number of services, including banks and the government. As far as security is concerned, I agree that banks allow this service to log in instead of a device and bank card.

Authentication runs through their servers, but transactions are not. So yes, Itsme knows that I log in to a bank and therefore my bank, whom I would also log in to if the service did not exist.

As for digital bites, my parents are old school. I gave them a Chromebook because the ATMs for money transfers are disappearing so I can help them remotely if they have a problem. Such people are not going to vote for the introduction of such a system, but it is being enforced.

They are retired and are actually looking forward to being helped by a human to avoid having to stare at a screen, because that job will eventually be replaced by a computer. They also feel that they are less likely to be scammed.

Personally, I view it differently. I don’t have to take a day off to get stuck in a traffic jam to get to the town hall to get a document, hoping that it will be my turn for lunch and maybe not forwarded to get another document first.

Is that going to cost that person his job? Perhaps, but administrative tasks should be computerized as much as possible, so that you can deploy more people for services where hands are useful, if there are, education, health care, elderly care, police, etc. Maybe the government should have taken this initiative, or the EU, but unfortunately. I’m glad it’s there.

Agree that there are people in all generations who have no interest in computer science, or who may have fewer resources. However, it is more likely that young people who have just graduated can handle a smartphone better than an older one.
