Smiling faces at Sparta
Sparta started the game round on Friday very well. It won 3-0 at home against Vitesse and thus did excellent business in the battle for the play-offs. It became even more rosy for the team from Rotterdam on Saturday afternoon, when FC Twente and Heracles drew in the Twente derby.
A few hours later, Sparta also saw sc Heerenveen as good as give up. The Frisians did not get further than 0-0 against FC Utrecht in-house. The deficit on Sparta is therefore four points.
AZ puts the pressure on PSV
Despite many personnel problems due to corona, an early injury and a red card, AZ did beat Fortuna Sittard 1-0. This makes it at least for a day above PSV.
The most spectacular game of Saturday was played in the basement of the Eredivisie. Ultimately, VVV-Venlo and RKC Waalwijk shared the points (3-3). Especially the Limburgers, who took the lead twice, will be disappointed. Despite the series of twelve defeats being brought to an end, relegation is now very close.
Classic on Sundays
The northeasterly battle between FC Emmen and FC Groningen starts at 12.15. There is a lot at stake in this. FC Emmen fights against relegation, while the Groningers still have to secure the play-offs.
Afterwards (2.30 pm) it is time for the Classic in South Rotterdam. In addition to the honor, Feyenoord has a lot of interest in winning, although direct placement for European football suffered a major blow last week in a duel with ADO Den Haag. National champion Ajax can play football relatively freely in this squatter.
Those who don’t feel like it can enjoy themselves with PEC Zwolle – ADO Den Haag. The home team is finished, but the visitors have to win to have a chance to save themselves.
The weekend ends (4.45 p.m.) with a Brabant derby: Willem II – PSV. For Willem II, every point during this poster would be a welcome bonus point in the fight against relegation, while PSV must win to keep AZ behind for second place.
The round of play started on Friday in Rotterdam. Sparta took on Vitesse at the Castle. The home team was 3-0 too strong for the number four in the Eredivisie.
