Possible four infections during André Hazes concert

The performance was part of Fieldlab’s series of trial events. In total there were about 1,300 people present. They were divided into five ‘bubbles’ of 250 people and a group of 50 people. During a dance party, a day later, no people were infected.

What is Fieldlab?

The Fieldlab organization tries to demonstrate that you can organize large events without many people infecting each other.

Last month, almost a year after the first talks with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the time had come: the first Fieldlab events became reality. A congress with 500 people, Guido Weijers gave a cabaret show and enthusiastic fans attended a football match between NEC and De Graafschap.

Founder Marcel Elbertse is happy that the government has decided against it. “Politicians have shown guts by letting it go ahead now.”

Fieldlab Events previously organized a conference, a theater performance by Guido Weijers and two football matches. This is done to see how events can be organized safely during the corona crisis.

Before the events, all visitors also had to undergo a test. Eleven people were tested positive for the dance party, seven for the concert. Those people were not allowed in.

More than 84 percent of the visitors to the Back to Live dance event and 86 percent of the visitors to the Hazes concert have undergone a second corona test after the events. That is the highest turnout to date at the Fieldlab events. In the earlier tests, that number was just under 80 percent and 82 percent.

“One person is known to have become infected between the pre-test and the event itself, but this person was not contagious during the event,” the organizers said. Four people were tested positive after the concert, but it is not certain whether the contamination occurred at the event. This is now being investigated.

Previous infections

Medical microbiologist Andreas Voss, Principal Investigator at Fieldlab, says the number of people who showed up for the second test was encouraging. “We have now ‘captured’ a total of 41 positive test results in the first six events, which also allowed us to keep out 41 possible sources of contamination,” says Voss.

“In total, five possible new cases have now been found after six events, which is completely within expectations, especially given the fact that these participants are also still alive and kicking in addition to the event and can contract a possible contamination.”

During the Fieldlab football match between NEC and De Graafschap, one supporter may have become infected with the corona virus. The supporter sat throughout the match on a pre-designated fixed seat with a mouth mask on.
