CDA party leader Wopke Hoekstra and GroenLinks leader Jesse Klaver hardly came to each other about the climate. They accused each other of telling nonsense stories about the climate and how polluting companies should be tackled.
Klaver wants to impose a CO2 tax on those companies, such as Shell and Tata Steel, and use the proceeds from it to green the industry. According to Hoekstra, Klaver is “stuck in his own right” and his measures will yield little.
“A lot of it leaks abroad, because those companies start producing there and you take a risk with 400,000 jobs.” The CDA therefore wants a European CO2 tax, but according to Klaver, the CDA in Europe recently voted against a proposal. But according to Hoekstra, that vote was also about the relationship between the EU and China.
Party leader Gert-Jan Segers of the ChristenUnie was attacked by both GroenLinks and the PvdA for his views on medical-ethical issues and homosexuality. Jesse Klaver of GroenLinks believes that a subject such as euthanasia for people who consider their lives complete should not be declared taboo in the coalition agreement of the new cabinet.
“Something so fundamental must be a free matter. I have the impression that Segers wants to impose his opinion on MPs,” said Klaver. Segers does want to make agreements about this in the formation, because he does not want to be part of a cabinet that makes this form of euthanasia possible.
“Everyone can choose freely, and I choose freely whether I want to lose my principles in this”, responded Segers. “I will not force anyone to do anything, but then do not force me to do something that is unwholesome.”
PvdA leader Ploumen also sought confrontation with the ChristenUnie leader, who she says is not clear about the acceptance of homosexuality. “There are schools from your rank and file where they say you can be gay, but not gay.” She thinks this is a wrong interpretation of the freedom of education.
Segers believes that schools should be allowed to take the position that marriage is something between a man and a woman, but that at the same time they should be a safe environment, also for young gays. According to him, protecting minorities and people in tribulation is precisely the reason he entered politics. “
He wondered how reciprocal the tolerance of the PvdA is. Ploumen said earlier that she is fighting with D66 against “a Christian wind”, for example about abortion. According to Segers, this sounds “bitter” towards people who have a religious view.
