After thirteen seasons it is over for Sunday with Lubach. The popular satirical VPRO program, which won the Gouden Televizier-Ring in 2017, said goodbye during the last broadcast tonight by encouraging the Netherlands and asking them to keep going for another three months. “Giving up now only makes things worse. Stop those house parties and lunch orgy. We are almost there.”
It has been an insane shit year, Lubach admits from behind his trusted desk. “But we must not forget one thing: we are almost there. The corona crisis is almost over, in three months – early July – everyone should be vaccinated and we can go wherever we want. Three months is really doable. Of course, things don’t go as fast in Europe as in Israel, but much faster than in Nigeria or Zimbabwe, ”Lubach continues. “No, it’s not cool to compare yourself to the poorest boy in the class. But we are doing quite well. We are on track. And yet we see people jumping overboard en masse. ”
Opening up everything – the catering industry, shops, etc. – is not a good idea at all, according to Lubach. “We can do this, we must not lose heart. It has been going on for a long time, but we still have to persevere. ”
Of course Lubach’s message was accompanied by the necessary satirical jokes. For example, he makes short work of the argument to change the curfew from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., because the sun would then set. “We can only use that argument in May,” said Lubach, who called on the viewer to stand in front of the window to see that it is already dark and to see that the neighbors also watch the last episode of Sunday With Lubach look. “What do we learn? That we don’t necessarily have to rely on the government. Policy is wobbling. Yes it is a bad year. We’re out of luck with the government and bad luck with the pandemic. But giving up now makes things worse. So quit those house parties! ”
As expected, Kajsa Ollongren also had to endure it after her blunder. Lubach also told a fairy tale for Pieter Omtzigt. But the troubled CDA politician always ‘bothered’ Lubach with texts because he wanted more information because of alleged abuses. Arjen calmed Omtzigt by reading a report on the rule of law of Montenegro. Lubach also briefly shared the recipe for sugar bread. “Hope to see you soon”, he concluded
Arjen Lubach would actually quit last year after the twelfth series, but because he could not enter the theater due to the corona crisis, there was room for another season. The series was all about the elections.
The popular program, broadcast by the VPRO from 2014, won the Gouden Televizier-Ring in 2017. In addition, Lubach often had success with YouTube videos and songs. Such was the duet I **** you remotely a hit with Merol and tracks about Justice Minister Ferd Grapperhaus and a duet with Fresku were also successful. Movies like The Netherlands Second went viral worldwide. In the video, which perfumed former President Donald Trump’s style, the ex-president was asked to America First to be completed with The Netherlands Second. Lubach also received an invitation to the talk show of the American Seth Meyers. There were also special websites, games such as Keezer’s Quest and apps with which Lubach scoffed at current events or drew attention to abuses.
Lubach can look back on a well-viewed closing season. The first episode on February 7 attracted a record 2.3 million viewers and the broadcasts afterwards also attracted a lot of audience, weekly around one and a half million.
