Last weekend, under conditions of, among other things, corona tests before and after the match as part of the Fieldlab experiments, the public was present at the duels in the Eredivisie. Ajax was allowed to receive the most people: 7500. By agreement, the experiments in the Kitchen Champion Division will be continued next weekend.
Immediately after the weekend, the KNVB asked the cabinet for permission to also receive fans in the Eredivisie again. The clubs also want this very much. “It was a good weekend,” says De Jong. “With the spectators there, a match is immediately a hundred times more fun. All involved thought so. Let’s hope we can continue in this way. ”
In the meantime, Fieldlab Events has advised the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) on the basis of previous experiments that “under strict conditions it is possible to organize active outdoor events, such as a sports match, with half to three-quarters of the normal visitor capacity. . ” This would offer even more perspective for the games in the context of the European title match, which will be played in Amsterdam next summer.
De Jong says about this: “That is a great boost for us. We are already happy with the space that the cabinet and the municipality of Amsterdam offer us to allow 12,000 spectators to enter the Johan Cruijff Arena. But we have never made it a secret that we hope and dream for more. But it is not only about the Fieldlab report, but also about the situation in hospitals. We realize that very well. ”
De Jong therefore does not exert any pressure on the government. “We understand very well that these are not easy processes in the current situation. The new proposal is now being reviewed by the OMT and the cabinet. But it is difficult to estimate what the situation will be in 46 days, when the first European Championship game takes place in Amsterdam. Let me put it this way: for the time being we are already very happy that we can organize these competitions in the Netherlands. ”
Earlier on Wednesday, Fieldlab, which organizes trial events in corona time, came up with new advice after three tests of football matches.
Under tight conditions, it is possible to host ‘active outdoor events’, such as a sports match, with half to three quarters of the normal visitor capacity, it was concluded.
In the current corona situation, according to Fieldlab, for example, it is necessary to have spectators wear a mouth mask while sitting when three-quarters of the stadium seats are occupied. At an occupancy of 50 percent, a mouth mask is only mandatory for walking around.
There must also be testing before and after the event, and use must be made of “an app or other kind of access control of a negative Corona test,” says Fieldlab. If half to three quarters of the normal maximum of spectators is allowed, the 1.5 meter rule can be dropped. In addition, spectators must always be made aware of practical information and ‘continuously’ made aware of compliance with the measures.
The cabinet will make a decision later this week on the Eredivisie matches that will be held this weekend. Leader Ajax hopes that spectators will also be present at the home game against Emmen, which is probably the championship match. But the chance that the Johan Cruijff ArenA will be more than half full on Sunday is small. The cabinet is mainly considering whether a few thousand supporters are welcome in the stadium, just like last weekend.
However, the Outbreak Management Team is still examining Fieldlab’s findings. That team of experts advises the cabinet on the fight against the corona virus and normally meets on Friday.
PSV is currently waiting for permission from the government to offer tickets for the home game with sc Heerenveen next weekend. “It is not yet clear whether the fans are welcome again,” said the number 2 of the Eredivisie. According to the people of Eindhoven, the decision will come on Thursday at the earliest.
Last Saturday, 4000 visitors were welcome in the Philips Stadium at the match against FC Groningen. The club hopes, just like the other home playing clubs in the Eredivisie, that this is now allowed again. The KNVB also hopes to get a definite answer from the government as soon as possible.
The decision about the championship will probably also be made this weekend. Ajax needs a point against Emmen to officially win the title. It goes without saying that the club would like to do this in the presence of fans.
