Last night, more than 1.4 million people saw how the Twente friends Ruby and Maaike conquered the hearts of the other pension owners in Bed & breakfast. They lovingly paid around 180 euros for a night’s sleep, to the amazement of many viewers on Twitter. After all, for that money, the guests did not even really get a fresh breakfast.
The cheerful Ruby and her best friend Maaike have been running their bed and breakfast in Enschede since last summer, consisting of a former circus wagon and a cozy furnished trailer.
It was a luxury that the participants of the NPO 1 program got to see the duo at all, because normally their company is ‘contact-free’. After all, the cuddly pair do not live next to the cars and mainly maintain contact with guests via e-mail.
They normally have to pay 135 euros per two people per night for a stay. If they also want to use the sauna or jacuzzi, 50 euros will be added. On Twitter, where the program soon trending topic was, several viewers did not know what they were hearing. 135 euros? Not in 135 years’, someone joked, for example.
Breakfast is ready
For such an amount you can expect a farm-fresh breakfast, viewers thought, but that hope turned out to be vain. The bed and breakfast is a side company of the good-humored friends, who also have a busy family life and another job. The breakfast was therefore already in the refrigerator with the trailers the day before.
It was a bit impersonal, but that didn’t really bother their guests. Certainly not in corona time, noted Xandra, who has a bed and breakfast herself with her son Klaas. Just like the other guests and boarders Pierre and Anneke, they almost forgot that they were participating in a TV program thanks to the wonderful beds. Ruby and Maaike themselves were also very popular. “They are very high in energy,” said Pierre. “They are hilarious girls.”
Unlike on Twitter, the criticism in the broadcast was therefore minimal. Xandra did recommend a dehumidifier, as she could not open the refrigerator due to the expansion of the wood and held the doorknob in her hands.
Pierre would have preferred the jacuzzi to have been turned upside down, for now he was sitting with his back to the garden, with a disappointing view of a wooden partition.
The atmosphere remained great, even when the wallets had to be drawn and the participants determined how much they thought their stay was worth.
Anneke and Pierre paid the asking price and Xandra and Klaas a little more, which brought Ruby and Maaike to 105 percent of the bill. Xandra and Klaas had to make do with 103 percent, while Anneke and Pierre won the episode with no less than 110 percent of the asking price.
With 1.4 million viewers Bed & breakfast in second place in the list of the most viewed programs of the Stichting KijkOnderzoek yesterday. It NOS News at 8 p.m. was, as almost always, the most watched program of the day (2.1 million viewers on NPO 1).
The Voice Kids on RTL 4, in which 13-year-old Lilia made a big impression on the coaches, attracted 1.3 million interested parties. The talk show Beau, in which the presenter a goof made jokes about Frans Bauer and Marc-Marie Huijbregts the house of Guus Meeuwis, also attracted over 1.3 million viewers.
