National figures

Over the past 24 hours, 3,924 new corona cases have been registered at the RIVM nationwide.

The number of positive tests has been quite stable in recent weeks. Every day, an average of about 4,500 infections come to light. On Mondays and Tuesdays, the number of new cases is below that average, because fewer people get tested on weekends. Over the course of the week, the number of new cases exceeds that average.

The number of deaths from corona increased by 26. This is quite normal for a Monday. That’s not to say that all of these people died in the past 24 hours. If corona patients die during the weekend, this is often passed on to the GGDs and the RIVM during Monday, after which the deaths are reflected in the figures for Tuesday. Then the number of deaths is highest.

The number of deaths has fallen significantly since the start of vaccinations. At the beginning of January, an average of about 100 people died per day, now 30 to 40 per day.

Rural hospitals

After five consecutive days of declines, the number of corona patients in Dutch hospitals has increased today. The total number of patients admitted with covid-19 is now 1905, 54 more than yesterday, reports the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS).

558 of them are in intensive care (ic), thirteen more compared to the day before. It is the first time in nearly two weeks that this number has exceeded 550. There are now 1,347 corona patients on the nursing wards, an increase of 41 in the past 24 hours.

According to the center, the covid occupation in the clinics and on the ic is almost the same as three weeks ago. “The picture remains stable with limited fluctuations over time. We expect the British variant of the coronavirus to take over and the number of patients in hospitals to rise in the coming period”, the LCPS said in an explanation.

In the past 24 hours, four patients have moved between regions. Last week, the LCPS moved the 2500th patient during the second corona wave due to crowds in the hospitals. Since September 21, the average is 15.5 covid patients per day.
