Champions League final beckons for Hakim Ziyech and Chelsea
Chelsea started the game very well. For example, Timo Werner got a mega chance, but inexplicably he found keeper Thibaut Courtois in his path.
Trainer Tuchel’s team raced across the field. Christian Pulisic had patience with an attack, outplayed Courtois and scored the 0-1 after 14 minutes on the scoreboard.
Karim Benzema gave Real Madrid a sign of life after a brilliant left-hand shot, but his bet hit the post. However, the Londoners were able to attack to their heart’s content. One after another Chelsea attack went towards Courtois’ goal.
But of course there was Benzema again a little later. Always the French. A short corner kick ended up at the striker via-via, who took the ball with his back to the goal with his head and with a half turn, the 1-1 hit the ropes in the 29th minute. After the equalizer, the Royal became stronger, but the break was reached 1-1.
But even after the tea break, Chelsea was not really impressed and kept the Real on the defensive. Ziyech was allowed to come in from Tuchel in the 65th minute. The attacking midfielder showed himself immediately and regularly demanded the ball and also a free kick in a dangerous position. But Courtois saved.
There were no more goals. The 1-1 final score gives Chelsea the advantage to finish the job in the return at Stamford Bridge. It was the third consecutive time that the strong playing English did not lose in an away game of the premier class. In the previous two rounds they even won, at Atlético Madrid and Porto.
Chelsea captain Azpilicueta: we’ve shown guts
Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta was quite satisfied after the draw (1-1) in the first match of the semi-final in the Champions League against Real Madrid. “We started the game with a lot of guts and immediately got chances. In that phase we played really well. In retrospect we can say that we achieved a good result. ”
“Especially in the first 20, 25 minutes could have taken more distance”, the Spaniard continued. “We could have more or less decided the game by then. Unfortunately that did not work. Real Madrid actually came back into the game completely unexpectedly, without getting many chances. But we knew it was going to be difficult and we certainly stood up very well. We look forward to the decisive game in London. ”
