ASUS introduces Zenfone 8 Flip with folding camera and compact Zenfone 8 – Tablets and phones

ASUS announces its Zenfone 8 series smartphones. The company is introducing a compact Zenfone 8 and a larger Zenfone 8 Flip with a camera island that folds over. The phones will both get a Snapdragon 888-soc from Qualcomm.

ASUS shows, among other things, the Zenfone 8, which has a 5.9 “amoled screen with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. The device also gets a fingerprint scanner under the screen. The smartphone is relatively compact, with dimensions of 148×68.5mm and a weight of 169 grams Zenfone 8 has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

The manufacturer equips the device with a Snapdragon 888-soc from Qualcomm, which is made on Samsung’s 5nm process and has an integrated 5G modem. The chip has a single Cortex-X1 core at 2.84GHz, three A78 cores at 2.42GHz, and four more energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.80GHz. ASUS releases variants with 6GB, 8GB or 16GB memory, and 128GB or 256GB storage. The 4000mAh battery supports fast charging at 30W. The phone also has a 3.5mm jack for audio and stereo speakers, the manufacturer reports.

Furthermore, the Zenfone 8 has a camera island with a primary 64-megapixel camera and a 12-megapixel sensor with ultra-wide-angle lens. The selfie camera is incorporated in a hole in the screen and has a resolution of 12 megapixels. According to ASUS, the Zenfone 8 will have a suggested retail price starting at 599 euros, for a variant with 6GB of memory and 128GB of storage.

ASUS also introduces its Zenfone 8 Flip. This is a larger device with a 6.67 “amoled display and a lower refresh rate of 90Hz. The battery is larger, with a capacity of 5000mAh. The camera island with three sensors can also ‘flip’ to the front of the device , so that all cameras can also be used for selfies.

Furthermore, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888-soc used is the same. ASUS supplies the Zenfone 8 Flip with up to 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage. A 3.5mm jack and an IP rating for water and dust resistance are missing. The Zenfone 8 Flip gets a suggested retail price from 799 euros, for a variant with 8GB memory and 128GB storage.

It is not yet known whether the Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip will be officially available in the Netherlands. ASUS lost in 2019 a lawsuit with Philips, after which the company had to remove all its smartphones from the Dutch market. Since then, the ASUS devices have not been officially available at Dutch stores.
