Apple Releases iOS 14.5 with App Tracking Transparency Privacy Feature

That’s right. But apparently hiding this option in the menu was so inaccessible that it is not widely used. Facebook is very afraid of this popup with every app that asks to allow it or not.

Although this option is less invasive in itself (it only blocks it for a single app at a time instead of everything), Facebook is nevertheless extremely afraid of loss of income that they have made quite a fuss about this. Apparently most people do not know where to find such an option and the popup lowers the threshold enormously. Facebook will undoubtedly have researched this and found it to lead to a massive increase in refusal.

I think that is in itself because it is only 4 tapes such as @WhatsappHack says. And then also very logical. “Settings. Privacy. Tracking. Slide to off.”. How simple can it be? I would much rather do that than be prompted with a popup every time. I find it much more difficult on my Android phone: When you browse the Google settings, the privacy options are scattered across the various settings menus and sometimes hidden under the ‘three dots’ menus as well. Apple makes it very easy in itself, with those 4 taps. Not easy enough apparently to let people who don’t want to be tracked actually use it.

That scares me a bit. 20-25 years ago, even the average office worker didn’t turn their backs on getting word perfect under DOS or even adapting an AUTOEXEC.BAT. Or dial in later with their modem. Now my family members panic when they have to enter a WiFi password. It seems like digital intelligence goes faster the more technology we have.

Now a settings menu is difficult or scary. Anyway, glad that it brings privacy back to the attention. And more people are going to block this. Ultimately, we all benefit because it will pay less to use tracked ads. That will lead to more untracked services and make it more normal again.

I also think that people know how to find that option more often now, precisely to prevent the popups (I understand that they will no longer come if you have that setting off because it will refuse all advertising IDs anyway)
